    All Brenau University offices and campuses will be closed Friday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Jan. 11, due to a winter storm expected across much of north Georgia and metro Atlanta.     Kayanne Shoffner Massey of Gainesville, Georgia, an alumna and longtime supporter of Brenau University, died Dec. 22 at age 84. The full obituary is available online. “We were saddened to learn of the passing of Kayanne Massey,” Brenau President David L. Barnett, Ph.D., said. “Kayanne kept the name of her alma mater raised up in the community and always spoke highly of Brenau and our students.

    The Melvin Douglas and Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation, Inc. has donated $100,000 to Brenau University to establish The David L. Barnett Scholarship. The scholarship honors Barnett, who became Brenau’s 11th president in February, and his 19-plus years of service at the university. Barnett said he was humbled to be honored by the Foundation and pleased the funds will support students.

    With the last day of classes on Nov. 26 and Finals Week complete, we have reached the end of the fall semester. On Friday, Dec. 13, the Brenau community will come together to honor our fall graduates in a celebratory commencement ceremony. I like to think of the commencement ceremony as both an ending and a beginning. At Brenau, we challenge students to lead extraordinary lives of personal and professional fulfillment.

    The Georgia Occupational Therapy Association has recognized two students in Brenau University’s School of Occupational Therapy in the Ivester College of Health Sciences. The association’s annual conference, held in October in Athens, Georgia, included students, faculty, and practitioners in occupational therapy. Brenau won both student awards presented at the conference.
