1 IntroductionObesity has now become a global epidemic with an alarmingly increasing rate of incidence (1). The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the worldwide prevalence of obesity nearly tripled between 1975 and 2016 and is expected to double in the next 25 years (2, 3). Different ethnicities exhibit different rates of obesity. This is evident in the different rates of obesity in ethnicities such as those of Southeast Asians, Arabs, and South Asians.
