On August 9, 2024, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed into law HB3773, a bill amending the Illinois Human Rights Act to address employers’ use of artificial intelligence (AI). The amendment clarifies that it is a civil rights violation to use AI that has the effect of discriminating on the basis of protected classes under Illinois law, or to “use zip codes as a proxy for protected classes.” 775 ILCS 5/2-101(L)(1).

Effective July 1, 2024, the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance ("Ordinance") will entitle eligible employees to accrue up to 40 hours of Paid Leave and up to 40 hours of Paid Sick Leave in a 12-month period and carryover certain leave into the next year. Eligible employees will begin to accrue 1 hour of Paid Leave and 1 hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 35 hours worked after July 1, 2024, or their first day of employment, whichever is later.
