A sum of money has been found in Kilkenny city. A litter picker came across the cash while collecting rubbish in the Friary Street area earlier today (Friday, 6th June). The very honest individual brought the find to the attention of Gardaí. Owner will know the amount and can contact the KCLR Newsroom on 056 77 96 262.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road crash in County Kildare. Emergency services attended the scene of the single vehicle incident involving a pick-up truck on the Barrettstown Road in Newbridge shortly after 8pm last night. The passenger, a young man aged in his late teens, was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Coroner has been informed an a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Bagenalstown’s in Bloom, in more ways than one. The annual festival (programme here) is underway in the County Carlow town, continuing to tomorrow (Saturday). And just in time, yesterday (Thursday) the recently completed public realm works in the town centre, funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme and the local authority, were officially unveiled by Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor.

From September, childcare fees for parents paying the highest rates will be capped at €295 per week. With the National Childcare Scheme subsidy, many parents will effectively pay around €198 weekly, closer to the national average of €197. The cap applies to full-day care of 40 to 50 hours and follows a fee freeze introduced in 2022. State funding for childcare will also rise by €60million next year.

Upgrade works on a key structure that links south Kilkenny and New Ross look set to start. The almost 100-year-old Ferry Mount Garrett Bridge arose at the Piltown Municipal District meeting this week where representatives had a presentation outlining the structural and safety improvements needed. A road closure is expected from July 21st for several days for investigations to commence but Cllr Michael Doyle says the disruption is necessary;
