FOGO receival centre ready for city's waste

IN less than five months, the City of Ballarat will begin its food organics and garden organics (FOGO) and glass recycling kerbside collections. From Monday 3 November, FOGO will be collected fortnightly in a green lidded wheelie bin. Each home will be given a kitchen caddie to collect their food waste, before it goes in the bin. Those currently without a green lidded bin will receive one.

BENDIGO Football Netball League senior interleague coach Simon Rosa says the ‘depth and quality’ of the league is reflected in the announcement of the training squad for the team’s clash against the VAFA next month at the QEO. The league unveiled its 41-player training squad on Friday morning. It comes after an intriguing first seven rounds of action in the 2025 season.
The Marsh freezes over for MND

MAJOR annual FightMND fundraiser Big Freeze in the Marsh was held on Saturday afternoon at Maddingley Park. Thirteen people from the Bacchus Marsh and Sebastopol football netball club communities were sponsored to slide into an icy pool in costume, all to raise funds for research into treatments and a cure for motor neurone disease. With a goal of $53,000, the sliders raised $55,000 by the time they went down the slide, and the campaign total hit more than $58,000 by the middle of this week.
Teesdale ELC works on track

CONSTRUCTION is underway on the new Early Learning Victoria childcare centre and kindergarten at Teesdale. The site next door to Teesdale Primary School will house long day care and kindergarten programs for up to 102 local three and four-year-old children. The design includes outdoor play areas, on-site parking, a community room, and a maternal and child health consulting room. Slab works and concrete pouring started this week, and structural steel is expected to go up in the middle of this month.

V/Line Cup returning to Ballarat

AFL Victoria has named Ballarat as the host city of the V/Line Cup in September. The annual under-15 boys and girls representative football carnival, and AFL talent pathway, will be held locally for the second year in a row. More than 600 players, officials and family members are expected to be in Ballarat for the competition from Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 September. Games will be played at venues including Mars Stadium, Marty Busch Reserve and City Oval.

SOME of Bacchus Marsh’s four-legged canine residents were the stars of Moorabool Shire Council’s most recent opening ceremony, and they had a ball. Masons Lane Dog Park was officially opened to the public last week and is a new, fully-fenced off-leash area, accessed from Young Street.

BALLARAT Foundation CEO Andrew Eales officially launched the 2025 Ballarat Winter Appeal last week at the Creswick Woollen Mills. Staff at the mills donated 160 wool blankets which will be distributed to people in need by the appeal’s local beneficiary emergency relief agencies, the Salvation Army, Uniting Vic.Tas, Anglicare, and St Vincent de Paul. One hundred and twenty more Creswick Woollen Mills blankets funded through the appeal will also be distributed.

COUNCILLOR Owen Sharkey was elected mayor of the Golden Plains Shire at a special meeting on Tuesday 20 May at 8.30am. Immediate past mayor Cr Sarah Hayden stood down from the leading role last week, but remains a councillor. Cr Sharkey received four votes from councillors Des Phelan, Emma Robbins, and Sarah Hayden, and himself.

Ms Jackson was appointed at the foundation’s annual general meeting this month, where retiring board members of nine years Wayne Weaire, Ian Corcoran and Emily Sweet were acknlowledged for their service.
