About a year ago, the administration sent an email to all Upper School students warning them to be careful attending Halloween parties because of the increase in teenage overdoses due to alcohol and drugs in Los Angeles. As I read through the message, I reflected on my past experiences surrounding Halloween: going to party city, picking the perfect costume, decorating my home and trick-or-treating. Over the years, the standard of innocence during the time of Halloween shifted.

One afternoon day, I suddenly began to taste distinct notes of paper blended in with the sweet caramel of my frappuccino. The drink itself, which had tasted delicious just minutes ago, was now inaccessible through the disintegrating paper straw. As the straw became mushier and more shapeless by the second, I decided to throw the drink away altogether, now lost in a can full of plastic cups and wrappers.

Graphic Design classes hosted the first “School’s Out For The Summer” Flea Market on the Feldman Horn Quad on May 24. Graphic Design students sold and displayed the merchandise they made during the school year. All proceeds from the event went to the Garment Worker Center in Los Angeles, a workers’ rights organization fighting for social and economic justice for low-wage garment workers.

Areas of the United States experienced a total solar eclipse April 8. While Los Angeles (L.A.) did not witness a total eclipse, a partial eclipse was visible. The last time a total solar eclipse was observable in L.A. was September 1923, and the next time a total eclipse will be visible from L.A. will be in 2045, the reported.

Girls Golf Wins Mid-Season TournamentAfter achieving second place in the Lady Mustang Invitational, the varsity girls’ golf team won the Mid-Season tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The varsity girls’ golf team set a record of 167 strokes at the Encino Golf Course. Kaydence Kim ’25 and Elynne Park ’25 tied our school record at 31 strokes. Ellie Koo ’24, a player on the varsity girls’ golf team, said she thought that they succeeded at the Mid-Season Tournament because….
