SINGAPORE - A 22-year-old man who allegedly slashed another man and injured three police officers in Hougang is expected to be charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons on April 19. It comes after the police received calls for help on April 17 in the vicinity of blocks 676 and 677 Hougang Avenue 8, where several members of the public witnessed a naked man purportedly damaging vehicles at the open car park.

A former diplomat who was fined 300,000 yen (S$2,693) in 2024 for secretly filming a boy at a public bath in Tokyo, among other acts of voyeurism, has been dismissed. Christopher Sim Siong Chye was dismissed by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 2, according to a notice in the government gazette on April 2. Sim, 56, was a counsellor – a diplomatic rank for experienced foreign service officers – at the Singapore Embassy in Japan when he committed the offences there.

Moderate to heavy thundery showers are expected over parts of Singapore in the afternoon on most days, said the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) on April 1. The showers may extend into the evening on a few of these days. In addition, Sumatra squalls may bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds on one or two mornings.

Singapore will contribute $150,000 as seed money to support Singapore Red Cross’ (SRC) fundraising efforts in Myanmar and Thailand, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on March 30, after a massive earthquake rocked both countries. Dr Balakrishnan also expressed Singapore’s deepest condolences for the significant loss of lives and damage in Myanmar and Thailand.

They recounted to The Straits Times scenes of people running towards open areas, swaying buildings and metro services being suspended, with long queues forming at bus and taxi stands.
