GEORGE TOWN, June 18 — The Penang government is now giving a 5 per cent discount to anyone who takes up completed but long unsold homes in the state. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the decision was made today to help reduce the number of overhang properties in Penang. “There are 2,729 overhang units in Penang,” he said at a press conference, referring to unsold homes that have been completed for more than nine months.

GEORGE TOWN, June 13 — The family of two Chinese tourists, who were killed by a fallen tree in Penang in September last year, filed a RM1.7 million civil suit against six parties. Yang Xueli, 69, and Wang Geng Feng, 41, through their counsel, Ng Kian Nam, filed the suit at the High Court here today. Yang is the widow of the 69-year-old deceased Liu Zhu and the mother of the 36-year-old deceased Liu Xinxin while Wang is the widower of Xinxin.

GEORGE TOWN, June 11 — Penang is calling on Melaka to adhere to Unesco heritage building guidelines to preserve the joint heritage inscription of both cities. Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said he had read about some building issues in Melaka. “So, in Melaka, they need to adhere to heritage preservation guidelines as well,” he told reporters today.

GEORGE TOWN, June 10 — Physical works for the Penang Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) project are expected to begin within the next one to two months, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said today. He said piling works for the RM10.5 billion project will start soon, marking a significant milestone for the state’s long-awaited LRT line.
