DAYTONA BEACH — If you've strolled along the sand in Daytona Beach over the past few months, you've probably noticed some work going on that might have left you a little puzzled. The city has two projects underway around the Boardwalk, and is getting ready to tackle a third. The men climbing around on scaffolding beside the Main Street Arch have been making extensive repairs to the coquina structure that was built in 1928.

DAYTONA BEACH — As another hurricane season gets underway and many local residents worry about their homes and businesses being flooded yet again, a possible solution to the annual inundation just got delayed. A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood risk management study that began in January 2024 had been slated to release a final report by January 2027. Now that final study has a due date in June of 2027, and an unexpected bill is going to be attached.

DAYTONA BEACH — If all goes well, in a few days there will be 10 fuzzy baby ducks at the Riverfront Esplanade waddling as quickly as their little legs will take them behind their mother. For the past three or four weeks, the white-and-brown-feathered mama duck has been on top of or right next to her 10 eggs in the linear park along the Halifax River. She laid the eggs in some mulch on the edge of a stone-covered walking path at the esplanade, so to protect her and her unborn chicks.

Belachew, former director of financial management at USAID, has extensive experience in federal government auditing. Contract negotiations, including salary and start date, are underway and require final approval by city commissioners.
