DAYTONA BEACH — The city of Daytona Beach has issued a citywide precautionary boil water advisory following a series of power interruptions at the city's water treatment plant on LPGA Boulevard. The interruptions caused a temporary drop in water pressure below the state-mandated threshold of 20 PSI. PSI is an acronym for Pounds per Square Inch.

Joe's Crab Shack on the Daytona Beach Pier saw record sales of $9.7 million in the lease year ending June 2024. Revenue is down so far in the current lease year, with a decrease of $435,913 compared to the same period last year. Despite fluctuating sales, the city has collected about $7 million in rent over 13 years, offsetting the pier's purchase and renovation costs.

As members of the Catholic faith in Flagler and Volusia counties mourned the passing of Pope Francis on Monday, they lovingly recalled his legacy as one of tenderness and care for disadvantaged people around the world. Francis, 88, a humble reformer who sought to make the Catholic Church more inclusive much to the ire of some conservatives, died following a lengthy bout of double pneumonia, the Vatican announced Easter Monday, according to USA TODAY.

Daytona Beach city commissioners approved linkage fees on new development to fund affordable housing. Commissioners are also considering using a portion of property taxes generated by rising property values for additional affordable housing funding. The linkage fees, effective October 1st, will have varying rates depending on the type of development. The FAITH group, a coalition of local houses of worship, has advocated for these measures since 2019.

The First Step Shelter Board approved a new three-year contract for Executive Director Victoria Fahlberg despite concerns from some board members.
