Scooters aren’t really the first thing that comes to mind when talking about needs for App State’s campus. However, adding a scooter or e-bike rental around campus may be an easy way to cut down on traffic and parking and add a little bit of fun to campus life. NC State, for example, called Spin to provide 300 scooters and 50 e-bikes for students. The Spin app also has automatic speed reduction for first time riders and a safety quiz that must be completed every 30 days.

September 10, 2024 With the presidential election coming up, people are excited to vote for a candidate they support, especially those who are voting for the first time. However, voting is more complex than just heading to the location and filling out the ballot. It requires real time and effort, or at least it should. Seeing popular ad campaigns or hearing positive comments from mutual friends is not enough knowledge to base such an important decision on.

Categories: August 26, 2024 Updates to App State’s infrastructure to facilitate new development on campus are, undoubtedly, a good thing. However, the university is executing these construction projects in all the wrong ways. By walking through all of the current construction projects on campus, one can see that App State is doing way too much at one time. The university should aim to finish one project before starting another.

For students graduating in May, the prospect of finding a job after graduation can be daunting. Whether graduates are staying in Boone to work, or moving to a new city to find a job there, this process is difficult for everyone. Graduates are faced with a completely new stage of life and thrown into a job market they may know nothing about. This is made even more intimidating by the lack of jobs available in Boone compared to other larger cities.

This is only six years away, so this issue must not be ignored for longer than it already has. Collectively, many people have made efforts to reduce emissions, like cutting down on fast fashion purchases or limiting plastic use. However, this same effort is not being shared by celebrities.

It is no secret that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid has many issues this year. The form had a rough launch, with it being opened to the public three months later than usual. Additionally, the form does not adjust for inflation when looking at a family’s income to determine financial aid eligibility. Failing to adjust for inflation makes it appear that students and their families have more income than they actually do, meaning students will qualify for less aid.

Imagine having to decide whether to drop a class after being unable to attend at all in person or only attending in person once. This was the reality for a lot of students this year. App State’s spring semester started on Jan. 16, and immediately all classes after 3 p.m. that day were moved online. Classes were also moved online on Jan. 17 and Jan. 19. Then, the last day to drop a class with no academic penalty was Jan. 22.
