A parade of uniformed groups kicked off the VE Day celebrations in Lancing, with hundreds of young people proudly marching on Lancing Beach Green. The band of TS Intrepid, the Lancing-based Nautical Training Corps, led the procession, with Adur town crier Bob Smytherman and Adur District Council chair Adrienne Lowe following behind. The Scout groups involved included 3rd/5th Lancing Sea Scout Group and 1st Sompting Scouts. Parents proudly watched them parade around the green to the stage area.

Children from Homefield Primary School were able to meet Worthing mayor Ibsha Choudhury outside the Town Hall on Thursday, May 8.

The incredible find from the Second World War has been made part of a display at Littlehampton Museum to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The typed letter, dated May 30, 1940, was folded up inside a Regesan tin for antiseptic bronchial lozenges.

The best preserved pillbox in West Sussex has been opened for VE Day 80 tours, giving people an opportunity to see what life would have been like for soldiers serving there. Ferring History Group hosted the open day on Patterson’s Walk on Thursday, May 8, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with project lead Pete Coe giving talks about the pillbox's history and Nigel Shearman from Friends of Shoreham Fort showing people what it was like inside.
