1. IntroductionMacrophages constitute an important component in the immune response to a wide range of conditions, encompassing autoimmune, infectious, inflammation and fibrotic diseases, among others [1,2,3,4,5]. The key mechanism responsible for maintaining tissue integrity and initiating tissue response to injury is the complex activity of tissue macrophages, which remove dying cells and bacteria, as well as produce a wide range of biologically active substances essential for tissue function.
