Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, will travel on Saturday to Solomon Islands. In Honiara, the Deputy Prime Minister will meet with Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and other Ministers. This visit comes after Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Manele announced in December Australia’s support to grow the size and capability of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, reflecting Australia’s role as Solomon Islands’ security partner of choice.

Gold Ridge Mining Limited (GRML) held its 2024 Outstanding Local Staff Awards ceremony yesterday, an event aimed at celebrating the hard work and dedication of its local employees. The awards ceremony is part of the company’s annual tradition of recognizing exceptional staff contributions. A total of 82 outstanding staff members out of GRML’s 571-strong workforce were presented with certificates and cash bonuses by company Director and managers.

From this month, Solomon Islanders wishing to travel to the UK will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Everyone currently who does not need a visa wishing to travel to the UK – except British and Irish citizens – will need an ETA to travel in advance of arrival. ETAs will cost £10 (SBD $100) to apply for and will be valid for two years. Those transiting through the UK will need to obtain an ETA too. ETAs can be obtained through the new UK ETA app.

The Prime Minister, the Honorable Jeremiah Manele, MP, received a courtesy call today from the former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and current Member of Parliament, the Honorable Peter O’Neil, MP. MP O’Neil used the visit to provide investment advice and highlight opportunities for the government’s consideration. He emphasized that Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Solomon Islands should foster greater business partnerships to expand opportunities across various sectors.

In recognition of hard work, determination and resilience, 30 youths with blind and visually impaired were awarded with certificates for their accomplishment at a graduation ceremony held on Sunday 8th October at Honiara Hotel. They received their certificates after completing four months’ training on basic computer, literacy and Braille.
