    Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, will travel on Saturday to Solomon Islands. In Honiara, the Deputy Prime Minister will meet with Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and other Ministers. This visit comes after Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Manele announced in December Australia’s support to grow the size and capability of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, reflecting Australia’s role as Solomon Islands’ security partner of choice.

    On December 20th, 2024, the Solomon Islands integrity institutions proudly hosted a certificate handing-over ceremony to honor the inaugural participants of the Integrity Professional Foundations Course. This noteworthy initiative, offered by Griffith University and supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in PNG, was conducted in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister’s Policy and Program Unit.

Mr. Waleanisia from Malaita Province was sworn in on Wednesday by the Governor General, His Excellency Reverend David Tiva Kapu to formalize his appointment. He was first appointed Permanent Secretary to the Ministry on 12 March 2012, a position he held consecutively on four-yearly contracts until his recent reappointment.
