Marine terminal operator SSA Marine has completed the transition of its fleet of 44 small-capacity and heavy-duty forklifts at berth 55 at the Port of Los Angeles from propane-fuel to battery-electric power. Berth 55 is the first of SSA Marine’s terminals to fully transition to zero-emission cargo-handling equipment in its operations. The Port of Los Angeles has a goal of being emission-free with its yard equipment by 20230, meaning SSA Marine has achieved this five years ahead of schedule.

Cavotec has signed an order valued at €8.1m (US$9m) with a global container shipping company to deliver complete shore power systems for new container vessels. The order includes cable management reels and weatherproof enclosures, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. Cavotec’s systems will provide cable management solutions, enabling vessels to connect to shore power while at berth.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division in Seattle, Washington, has selected aluminum vessel builder Moose Boats to build a custom diesel-electric hybrid patrol boat. King County Sheriff’s Office was able to purchase this vessel by using Government Service Agency (GSA) discounted pricing with a grant made possible by Washington State’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA) funding.

Viking and Fincantieri have announced details of the Viking Libra, which they state will be the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship. The vessel is currently under construction in Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard and will be delivered in 2026. The Switzerland-based cruise and travel company’s subsequent ocean ship, the Viking Astrea, which is also currently under construction and is scheduled for delivery in 2027, will also be hydrogen-powered.

The Manila South Harbour (MSH) in the Philippines has received US$100m in investment from DP World and Asian Terminals (ATI). This will go toward the extension of Pier 3 berth to over 600m, yard expansion to accommodate 20,000 TEUs, the addition of two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, and the purchase of eco-friendly landside equipment.
