    A crocodile has been making itself at home in a Sanibel woman’s backyard, raising concerns among residents. The homeowner, Carolyn David, first spotted the crocodile near her sliding glass door. It has since been regularly returning to a specific spot by the water, scratching and surveying the area. The crocodile is 10 feet long, and while having this cold-blooded creature steps from her back door isn’t ideal, David acknowledges its significance.

    In late March, the town of Fort Myers Beach shared that it may get its FEMA flood insurance discount back sooner than expected. If everything goes as planned, the town could be taken off probation by November, with the discount reinstated on April 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the town continues efforts to bring homes and businesses back into compliance.
