SINGAPORE – It is a rainy Sunday afternoon in October and a lively menagerie has taken over a nondescript industrial office in Toa Payoh: five dogs, two rabbits, a cat and a white dove named Quinty. Among them sit 15 humans, some with their hands on their furry and feathered friends, eyes closed in concentration as they try to focus on sending healing energy. Leading the session is Mr Ezekiel Ong, a veterinary technician, reiki master and animal “communicator”.

She picks the iced lemon tea. “All my life she never used to drink cold drinks but now, she always wants something iced. It’s like she’s a small kid again,” he says of his 74-year-old mother, Madam Tan Sow Meng, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

Southern Torch made a contribution to the donations at Section Fire Department for disaster victims in our neighboring states. With many people left without power, water, shelter, food and supplies, the Torch appreciates the efforts of the Section Fire Department and Macedonia Fire Department to help those effected by the catastrophic damage from Hurricane Helene. The fire departments plan to depart on Tuesday, Oct. 1, for their first trip to deliver these supplies.
