Wow, what a week! A historic one beyond our wildest imaginations. Over the past few days I’ve found myself watching the sun rise each morning and trying to take in all that has transpired since last Sunday. At times, I can’t find the words. I’ve felt so many different emotions: shock, awe, heartbreak, sadness, joy, disbelief, amazement, joy, and hope. And I’m sure there’s more. If anyone tells you that they know what’s going to happen in this presidential race, tell them to think again.

When Georgia Hunter was 15, she learned that not only had her grandfather, Eddy Courts, been Jewish, but she also learned he was born Addy Kurc in Poland and had escaped Europe during the Holocaust. In the summer of 2015, Betsy Milburn noticed she was having trouble swallowing. She did what so many of us would do and chalked it up to daily life issues like allergies, sinus issues, or acid reflux. Then thought maybe it was hormone-related when she learned she was eight weeks pregnant. Then she felt the protrusion in her throat. One visit to her doctor and an ultrasound later, Betsy found out the cause of her swallowing issues: a tumor in her throat.

I was on the move again this week. As I was packing my bag for my next trip, my daughter walked into my room and seemed surprised. "Not again," she said. I told her it was just a short trip, but still she said, "Mommy, you have got to stop. Every few days, you are flying somewhere else. You’re nuts!"Maybe she’s right, but off I went to New York City anyways.

I am a women's health advocate, and I am disheartened by the number of women I know who face diverse challenges in managing their health today. As women, we're susceptible to biases in the medical industry and egregious gaslighting, and we often feel that our doctors do not hear us. Thankfully, significant changes are occurring to counter this, as evidenced by President Joe Biden's announcement of the largest women's health and research investment in our nation's history.
