BACKGROUND: Mortality risk assessment before kidney transplantation (KT) is imperfect. An emerging risk factor for death in nontransplant populations is physiological age as determined by the application of artificial intelligence to the electrocardiogram (ECG). The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between ECG age and KT waitlist mortality.

It’s one of those things we hear about aging over and over again. Keep exercising. Keep doing things. But are there certain forms of exercise that aren’t safe as we get into our seventies and eighties? Are there things we need to change? Senior exercise instructor Jayah Faye Paley says yes and no. One sport she does not recommend for seniors: pickleball. She cites statistics that show the more an older adult plays the sport, the higher the risk of injury, mostly due to impact with the hard court.

As an 81-year-old, Palo Alto resident Janet Silver Ghent has decided to tell her story of late-in-life love by publishing her memoir, a series of stories spanning most of her eight decades but focused on her first marriage, motherhood, divorce and finding new love in her late 50s. The book, “Love atop a Keyboard, a Memoir of Late-LIfe Love,” was released last month by Mascot Books.

Michelle Rosengaus, the senior manager of adult programs at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto, is on a mission to reconnect those seniors. “Since the pandemic, it’s been hard to get seniors back,” Rosengaus said.

Eleanor Sue recently found her life coming full circle through a child. Her 5-year-old granddaughter, by marriage, proudly claimed to her class that she's Chinese because she has a Chinese grandmother. This granddaughter, along with her siblings, are not actually Chinese by blood but are curious about things like the zodiac years and other pieces of Chinese culture, something that pleases Sue, an instructor at the Avenidas Chinese Community Center.
