US officials have expressed concern about disruptions from disinformation on Facebook. Meta's president of global affairs Nick Clegg told CNA's Elizabeth Neo that the platform is doing as much as it can to ensure political discussions can be conducted safely and openly. SINGAPORE: The tightening of Housing and Development Board (HDB) loan limits may slow down demand in the short term but it will have a limited impact on prices in the long run, according to property analysts CNA spoke to on Tuesday (Aug 20). HDB and the Ministry of National Development (MND) announced late on Monday that the loan-to-value (LTV) limit for HDB loans will be lowered from 80 per cent to 75 per cent, reducing the maximum amount that home buyers can borrow from HDB.

While some parts of South Asia are reeling from heavy rains, others are sweltering under record-breaking heat. Residents in India's Rajasthan are facing intense heatwave conditions, with some parts of the state recording highs of 50 degrees Celsius. The searing heat can be partly blamed on the El Nino climate phenomenon that brings hotter and drier weather. Things are about to shift, though. Meteorologists say La Nina is forecast to take over for the second half of the year.

Inflation in Japan continues to cool, keeping the country's central bank on a cautious stance as it attempts to tighten monetary policy gradually. Consumers in Japan saw another month of slowing price increases in April. Core consumer inflation decelerated to 2.2 per cent on-year last month. The data, which excludes fresh food, is at its lowest level in three months. Overall consumer prices in April also eased to 2.5 per cent on-year. Elizabeth Neo reports.
