The New York State Department of Health is opening up its exclusive contract for naloxone next year to other companies that make the drug — potentially including one on the hook for tens of millions of dollars in an opioid settlement. Hikma Pharmaceuticals, which is set to pay $150 million in settlement funding to six states including New York for their role in fueling the opioid crisis, is trying to get in on the contract.

Two years after pharmaceutical money from opioid settlements began pouring into municipalities statewide, New York City can’t say exactly how the more than $60 million it has reported spending thus far has been used, even as overdose deaths continue to rise. At a quarterly meeting of the New York State Opioid Settlement Fund Advisory Board Wednesday, members railed about the city’s failure to account for its share of the settlement fund.

A new book about Donald Trump’s time on “The Apprentice” has garnered multiple reviews and headlines. But New York Public Library (NYPL) patrons seeking to check out a hardcover copy of “Apprentice in Wonderland” by Ramin Setoodeh, an inside look at the reality television show, are out of luck. The NYPL hasn’t bought the book yet as of Monday morning, citing a lack of funds at the end of the fiscal year that ended June 30, even though “Apprentice in Wonderland” went on sale June 18.
