Unfortunately, it has become the reality for many women who are diagnosed with PCOS. Formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, the condition affects an estimated one in ten women. However, according to the World Health Organisation, up to 70% of sufferers are believed to still be undiagnosed.

The student union (SU) is running schemes called Kingston needs her and Kingston needs them to encourage female and non-binary students to take on leadership positions. Currently the elected trustee-board are all men. The board is responsible for running the Union, including representing students on issues such as wellbeing and educational experience. It consists of the president, student opportunities officer, welfare officer and education officer.

During dry January it is still very important to socialise, but because student life is so booze-heavy it can be difficult to avoid. Over the past few years, there have been alcohol-free bars and pubs opening and the River asked 35 students their thoughts. A surprising 25 out of 35 students said that they would try an alcohol-free pub or bar. With lots of students agreeing that an alcohol-free environment would be calmer and safer.

Over the Christmas break, The Fighting Cocks has plenty of events and gigs lined up, including its popular and returning LGBTQ+ night, What’s Your Star Sign (WYSS) and its Christmas party on 22 December. WYSS is a pride event and pop-punk band You Over Me will be playing alongside the band Girls Like Us. Doors open at 7:30pm and tickets are £6 when bought in advance.
Students say university negatively impacts their mental health

A huge 17 out of 20 students claimed that their mental health has been affected whilst at university, according to our survey. The River conducted a survey to 20 students to understand the impact university has on mental, especially the difference between expectation and reality. Only one out of 20 students said that their university experience lived up to their expectations and only six students said that it mostly had.
