ESSEX TOWN — The selectboard chose its newest member to serve as clerk this year at its meeting last Monday, April 7, during which the selectboard undertook its annual reorganization. Shannon Jackson, voted onto the board by residents on Town Meeting Day, was nominated for clerk by Ethan Lawrence and Andy Watts seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously, with Jackson’s status as clerk effective immediately.

BURLINGTON — Michelle Krasny of Essex Junction brought fiber arts group Essex Fiber Fans to Burlington craft store the Makery this weekend, as part of a nationwide 12-hour knit-a-thon. Proceeds from the knit-a-thon this past Saturday will benefit a number of organizations working to fight hunger across the country and world: Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry and Meals on Wheels — hence, the initiative’s name: Knit for Food.

VERMONT — The state legislature is reviewing a transportation bill that may fundamentally change the landscape of rural transportation in Vermont, amidst a search for possible cost savings opportunities. Green Mountain Transit was originally implemented to serve Chittenden County, the most urban region of the state, but for the last decade it has also provided public transportation to Franklin and Washington counties.

ESSEX JUNCTION — Essex Junction’s Annual Meeting Day results are in, with a $12,419,241 budget passed alongside the passage of bond funding serving to retrofit three pump stations. In addition, Brian Shelden beat out Bethany Clark in the race for city council’s single open seat, by a margin of 141 votes — Shelden with 932, Clark with 791, 133 blank votes and 11 write-ins, according to the city’s preliminary results. He will serve one three-year term in the position.
