COLCHESTER — Green Up Day is coming to Colchester this Saturday. Residents, businesses and community groups are invited to help clean public roads, beaches, parks and the bike path to help make the town a clean and healthy place to live. Bags and a sign up sheet are available at the Colchester Police Station during public open hours. Participants can also pick up bags between 8 a.m. and noon on Green Up Day, Saturday, May 3.

COLCHESTER — Three buildings with 65 affordable studio and one-bedroom apartments have been built in the Fort Ethan Allen neighborhood of Colchester. The project was a collaboration between Champlain Housing Trust and Evernorth and apartments rent for an average of $1,200 per month and include heat and hot water. The first tenants moved into the buildings at the beginning of this year and the newest will move into the most-recently completed building later this month.

COLCHESTER — A new inn and restaurant could be coming to Mallets Bay. Hazelett Casting Corporation brought the proposal to Colchester’s Development Review Board for a second hearing April 9. Four consultants representing Hazelett answered questions from the board and members of the public. According to the site plan application, the development would be located at 166 and 180 West Lakeshore Drive and include a 48-seat restaurant and four cottage-style buildings.

COLCHESTER — As a freshman legislator, Rep. Doug Bishop (D-Colchester) is settling into life under the Golden Dome. A lawyer and former nonprofit leader, Bishop was elected to represent the eastern side of Colchester along with fellow Democrat Rep. Gayle Pezzo back in November. He’s now serving on the House Health and Human Services Committee in the statehouse. The Sun spoke with Bishop to find out what he’s working on this session and what issues still need attention.

COLCHESTER — Sen. Pat Brennan (R-Colchester) is no stranger to the statehouse, but this session, he’s seeing it from a different perspective. After serving 22 years in the House of Representatives, he was elected this past November to represent the Grand Isle District in the Senate. “It's different, that's for sure,” he said. “I will say, I enjoy the heck out of it.”Brennan serves on two committees now, as opposed to one in the House.
