Traders in Market Drayton have said they are "thrilled" to find out the indoor and outdoor markets have made the top 10 shortlist for Britain's Favourite Market 2025. The shortlist was drawn up after more than 40,000 public votes were cast - with Shrewsbury Indoor Market also making the list. Market Drayton's markets have undergone significant transformation since they were taken over by Shropshire Council in April 2024, led by Kate Gittins.

A comic book artist has said an arts charity he supports has been "really buoyed" after raising £70,000 to meet costs. Charlie Adlard, who is best known for his work on The Walking Dead comic books, is also a trustee of Shrewsbury-based The Hive. The organisation, which offers arts and wellbeing projects supporting children and young people, launched the Save The Hive campaign to meet rocketing energy bills and high demand for funding grants.

Villagers have said they have been "abandoned" after going more than 60 hours without electricity. The power cut in Shawbury, Shropshire, started at 19:00 GMT on Saturday, after Storm Darragh knocked down a power line. Locals said they have had little communication from Scottish Power about when the electricity will be restored, and have had to resort to sleeping in their coats.
