    Grocery inflation is back on the rise again, according to Which?'s supermarket price tracker. Our tracker shows overall grocery inflation rose by 5.2% in the year to May 2025. It's the third successive quarter supermarket grocery prices have risen. And while it's still a far cry from March 2023, when grocery inflation hit a peak of 17.2% during the cost of living crisis, some items have seen much steeper rises.

But our latest investigation reveals the truth behind these 'was' prices and exposes a string of tactics that could, in some cases, be misleading for shoppers.

    A Which? investigation has uncovered questionable and dodgy pricing tactics at SportsDirect.com that we believe may be breaking the law. In particular, we found SportsDirect.com using reference prices that appear to be misleading. Our researchers analysed the prices of 160 different products sold on the Sports Direct website and found examples where the saving suggested by the higher reference price did not appear genuine. We've now called on the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate.

    Aldi was the UK's cheapest supermarket in May – beating Lidl's loyalty prices by just 31p. We compared the prices of 82 popular grocery items and found that both Aldi and Lidl (with and without loyalty prices) were cheaper than shopping at Asda, Tesco with a Clubcard or Sainsbury's with a Nectar card.     My mother was a young single parent and having just given birth, her hormones were all over the place. She couldn’t cope with the news, which stated that I’d be laughed at and came with images of how I might look later in life. She had no support and she was scared. Thirty years on, we like to think that we live in a much more inclusive society. Perhaps my five Paralympic gold medals and sequinned twirl on Strictly Come Dancing are testament to the strides we’ve made.
