A Chemung County man was indicted on 23 counts — including 19 felonies — following accusations he sexually assaulted several minor females over a period of years. Earlier this spring, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office charged Warren F. Morrison, 49, of Ashland, with first-degree rape, and said additional charges were anticipated.

Four people were taken into custody after representatives from several law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant Friday at a residence in the Village of Horseheads. Around 9 a.m. Friday, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office Special Services Unit carried out a raid at 147 Matthews Circle as a result of a multi-agency investigation into stolen property — including weapons and ammunition, a lawnmower, snowblower, cash and a variety of other items.

An Elmira man faces an arson charge after police investigated an early morning blaze Wednesday at an apartment building in the city. Around 7 a.m., a fire alarm from St. Joseph's Apartments, located at 550 E. Church St., came into the Chemung County 911 Center, according to the Elmira Police Department. Responding Elmira Fire Department personnel located and contained a working fire that originated in an occupied apartment on the fifth floor of the building.

A Bradford County man convicted on federal child pornography charges will spend more than 20 years in prison. Chief U.S. District Judge Matthew W. Brann sentenced Benjamin Wheeler, 29, of Athens, to 24 years and four months imprisonment, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, for his conviction on one count of production of child pornography.

Former Bradford County District Attorney Chad Salsman, who resigned in 2021 and pleaded guilty in a case involving sexual misconduct against former female clients from his private practice, has been granted parole after serving more than three years of his sentence.
