Rhona Stephanie (Morgan) Browne passed away peacefully at the tender age of 95 years on November 28, 2024 in Mississauga, Ontario. Rhona was born on the beautiful island of St. Vincent & the Grenadines on February 6, 1929, to her beloved parents, Christopher Morgan and Roseanna (Charles) Morgan.

First, I would like to thank my Lord and Savior for giving me the strength and resources to keep this newspaper going. It has been a great challenge to uphold the standards and reputation of the Contact. Mourning the loss of my father while becoming a father myself has been the biggest test of my life. Balancing the daily challenges of running a business that serves the community while also providing for my family has not been easy.

December 25th 2024 from 9am to 2pm will be the 18th edition of the Annual Caribbean Xmas day show titled “Island Riddims” on Ckut 90.3fm, hosted by Production Sounds and Soca Head. For eighteen years now this annual radio show has been a part of our Caribbean Christmas Traditions. It all started as a fluke in 2006, when no one was ever interested in doing their radio show on Christmas Day at Ckut 90.3fm.

Edwin Ayoung, better known as Crazy, was born in 1944 at Maraval Road, Port of Spain, Trinidad, one of eleven children to a Chinese Trinidadian father and an Afro-Venezuelan mother. Whenever we speak of the greatest proponents of the calypso art-form, his name is almost rarely brought up. I think it should be.

We are only a few weeks away from the month of December and the heart of the Christmas season, or as Caribbean people may say “Parang Season”. However, Soca lovers have been web searching for new Soca music for the 2025 Trinidad and Tobago Carnival since after the Miami Carnival and only has a few weeks left before Parang season kicks in. That’s why most Montreal Soca lovers are looking for their end of year Soca fix.

Dr. Alwin SpenceMrs. Ruby Smith was one of four Black teachers at a rural school in New Jersey. The school had a staff of eighteen teachers and one principal. Of the eighteen teachers, Mrs. Smith and three others were Black. Mrs. Smith was one of the grade five teachers. She was well loved by her students. Parents also admired her, and often requested that their children be placed in her class. She was also from the community and was the only teacher with a master’s degree in education.
