Exile Brewing Co. won gold at the World Beer Cup in the Munich-style dunkel beer category for its beer titled G.G. Exile’s brew was selected in a field of 8,375 entries from 1,761 breweries across 49 countries. G.G. now has more than five awards at national beer competitions, including silver at the same competition last year. A community land trust, whose goal is to provide long-term affordable housing in communities, is expected to fully launch in Central Iowa by late 2025 with initial work underway to acquire properties. “Ultimately, the land trust is just another tool in the community’s toolbox that allows permanent affordability,” said Carrie Woerdeman, executive director of Home Inc., a nonprofit whose mission is increasing homeownership opportunities for residents in Central Iowa.

A group of Central Iowa entrepreneurs, funders and advocates are trying to reframe entrepreneurship as a legitimate career path by creating an inspirational hub of conversation via Substack, an online writing platform. The Iowa Startup Collective is a group of nine writers, each writing about entrepreneurship from different angles. Tej Dhawan, who started as an entrepreneur and is now managing director of Plains Angels, is a member of the collective.
