A man in his 20s will serve four decades in prison for a shooting that killed a man and injured two others. Deionte Jaewon Parker, 27, was sentenced to 40 years (480 months) in prison for aiding and abetting second-degree murder and possessing a gun illegally. A jury found Parker guilty on March 4, according to court records.

A Nobles County deputy is in critical condition following a crash on Sunday evening. A report from the Minnesota State Patrol says a 63-year-old Sioux Falls woman was driving a Chevy Equinox westbound on I-90 around 4:30 p.m. when she hit a Dodge Durango squad car occupied by 30-year-old Nobles County Deputy Arnold Logan Waldner. Deputy Waldner, who has been with the sheriff’s office for two years, was brought to Sanford Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A Moorhead man is facing charges in connection with a homicide on Sunday. Jerome Anthony Thomas III, 35, was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. The charges stem from a fatal shooting that occured on the 2700 block of 14th Street South in Moorhead.

A volunteer at a Lutheran church and school with a cognitive delay and an extensive history of sexual assault allegations has been charged for assaulting four children under the age of 6. Joshua Alirio Seeman, 50, of St. Paul, was charged last week with two counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. On April 6, police took a report of sexual abuse by Seeman to a 5-year-old boy, identified as V1 in the criminal complaint.

A man from Mexico residing in Faribault was indicted recently for attempting to entice a minor, according to the U.S. District Court for Minnesota. Alex Misael Huerta-Sanchez, 31, was illegally present in the U.S. when he allegedly tried to entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit content, a Wednesday announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick said. Huerta-Sanchez was in court Wednesday for an initial appearance. He is set to remain in custody pending further court proceedings.

A man in his 60s is dead after a crash in Pine County on Wednesday. According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford F150 truck was traveling westbound on Highway 48 in Barry Township around 11:30 a.m. when it lost control and slid into the front of a semi truck in the eastbound lanes. The Ford truck landed off the road to the north of Highway 48, the State Patrol said. The driver of the Ford, Gary Eugene Thompson, 67, of Hinckley, died as a result of the crash.

A woman and two dogs died after a fire in Ely on Tuesday night. The Ely Fire Department responded to the 200 block of North 5th Street around 11 p.m. on a report of a house fire, according to a press release. Fire crews found a two-story home with thick smoke. After extinguishing the flames, the crews entered the house and found a woman. She was brought to the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the press release added. Two dogs also died in the fire.

A second victim is suing the former owner and management company of Hotel Ivy, arguing it played a role in a sex trafficking scheme that victimized multiple teenage girls and ended in the conviction of Anton “Tony” Lazzaro. The man federal prosecutors dubbed “Minnesota’s Jeffrey Epstein” was convicted of sex trafficking of minors in 2023. He’s currently serving a 21-year prison sentence. Lazzaro resided in a condo at The Hotel Ivy in downtown Minneapolis.
