IOLA – The Village of Iola board president seat was contested for the spring election with incumbent Jennifer Schustek coming out on top April 1. The numbers came in at 279 votes for Schustek and 207 votes for challenger Mike Richberg. Schustek was first elected as board president in 2021, which was the only seat open at the time.

IOLA – The music ordinance in the Village of Iola was created and approved in May 2023 to outline policy for outdoor and music entertainment within the village limits. Recent complaints may be sending the ordinance back to village officials. In a March 25 working committee meeting at village hall, Jennifer Schustek, the Village of Iola board president, said that with new complaints coming in about outdoor entertainment, the board will need to address the issue.

WAUPACA – With its start in 1963, the Waupaca Art Show is still thriving as it enters its 62nd year as artists prepare to show off their work at Danes Hall from April 12 to the 16. Last year 148 artists submitted over 350 pieces of artwork to display at the Danes Hall at 301 North Main Street. The show brought in over $7,000 in artwork sales. Artwork can be purchased by the public which can be picked up April 16 at the close of the show.

IOLA-SCANDINAVIA – Pupil services were on hand at the March 10 Iola-Scandinavia School Board meeting to discuss homelessness and how it is addressed in the district. Kimberlisa Przychocki, the director of pupil services and special education, led the presentation to the board along with Megan Driebel, the school counselor. Przychocki said that less than one percent of the students in the school would qualify as homeless if the protocol to recognize homelessness is followed.

Rick Zemple, owner of Little Wolf River Outfitters, started offering the services last fall; however, the service is still somewhat new to the shop.
