    HORTONIVLLE – Village officials, community members and donors celebrated the opening of Hortonville’s new ADA splash pad and accessible playground at Alonzo Park Saturday on May 31. Village Administrator Nathan Treadwell spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the park. The park and its new facilities are located at 310 E. Main Street across from Kwik Trip.

    In the opening regional matchup of the WIAA softball playoffs, the third-seeded Clintonville Truckers needed an extra inning to take down the sixth-seeded Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks at home on May 27. In the second inning, the Truckers had an opportunity to get a run on the board as the bases were loaded but left three runners stranded. In the fourth inning, there was another chance for the Truckers to score with a runner on third, but they couldn’t cash in as they were left stranded.

    SPASH baseball fell to a visiting D.C. Everest on May 27 as they lost their final home game. Ty Rohde gave D.C. Everest an early advantage in the top of the third inning with an RBI single to go up 1-0. Zach Biechler tied the game for SPASH at 1-1 with a standing RBI double to bring in Owen Mansavage. Koy Karaliunas gave SPASH the 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly that brought in a run. D.C. Everest took a 3-2 lead after an RBI by Brennan Hochberger.

    Amherst softball lost their WIAA regional matchup on the road against Wittenberg-Birnamwood on May 27. Sophia Lemieux put Wittenberg-Birnamwood on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. A wild pitch brought in a runner for a score to give Wittenberg a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Calee Schulist had a two-run RBI single to tie the score at 2-2 in the third inning. A wild pitch put Amherst up 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
