It's the eve of Chinese New Year, a popular time for people to swarm to takeaways and restaurants and indulge themselves in the cuisine. So, to celebrate this, we've been on the hunt for Essex's best establishment. Chinese New Year, also referred to as Lunar New Year, starts on the first day of the first lunar month and concludes with the Lantern Festival on the 15th day. This year it takes place a week today on January 29.

We've seen some major cities across the UK enforce 20mph zones to improve safety. Here in Essex, Southend Council has trialled just this in Leigh successfully and has hinted that it could be rolled out further. But are 20mph speed limit zones in residential areas a good thing? We've been asking our readers what they think and whether all residential roads should have a 20mph speed limit. Every so often, we ask our readers to shout out their favourite businesses and this time it was the turn of cocktail bar enthusiasts to have their say. After a round of nominations we whittled it down to just five and we are now able to reveal the winner. The Fête Lounge in Upminster has been voted the readers’ choice as the best cocktail bar in Essex.
