The race to clean up California’s economy is on. There is just over a decade until Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ban on the sale of fossil fuel-burning cars takes effect, and just over two decades for the state to achieve its goal of a carbon neutral economy. “What’s amazing is that we do have the technology to achieve a net zero emission future,” said Hilary Tellesen, workforce director at Valley Vision, a nonprofit Sacramento research and advocacy group.

Aftershock returned to Sacramento, bringing $30 million in economic impact to the region over the course of the four-day festival. “It started as a one-day event and now we’re here,” said Kari Miskit, chief operating officer of Visit Sacramento, the city's convention and visitors bureau. She said the event, held Oct. 10 through 13 at Discovery Park, brought an estimated 40,000 attendees per day of the festival, coming from all 50 states and 30 different countries.

A new tasting room and event space in Amador County has big plans for the future. “It’s kind of a generational project,” said Dominick Chirichillo, who owns Domenico Winery with his wife Gloria. “We have two sons, so we’re hoping that it lives on.”The new 6,500-square-foot tasting room and event space in Ione is the second location for Domenico Winery, which began as an urban winery in 2004 in San Carlos, near Palo Alto.

VSP Vision is in talks to acquire a new major chain of optical retail stores. The Rancho Cordova-based vision care and insurance giant announced Wednesday that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Eyemart Express, a Farmers Branch, Texas-based company with eyeglass stores in 42 states. In a statement, VSP CEO Michael Guyette said the companies were both doctor-founded organizations with shared values.
