The competition showcases talent in various creative categories, from painting to poetry and photography. An estimated 600,000 L.A. County students, grades 7-12, are eligible to participate by submitting their artwork or writing by the Dec. 2, 2024 deadline.

On Election Day, Berkeley voting centers saw long lines that poured out of the doors and around the blocks of both the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland building and Eshleman Hall. Despite the high student voter turnout, there are only seven poll workers working at each of these voting centers, both of which are either on or extremely close to campus. “We have been planning this since late August,” said Ariyana Tavakoli, program manager of YWCA Berkeley/Oakland.
