CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Attorneys for convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh filed a lengthy and long-awaited appeal Tuesday in the South Carolina Supreme Court. The 56-year-old Murdaugh was convicted of the June 7, 2021, killings of his wife and son at their Colleton County home on March 2, 2023. He is currently serving two life sentences for the crimes.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) - A new state trial date for Russell Laffitte, a man accused of conspiring with Alex Murdaugh to commit fraud, is requested for October 2025. Monday’s status hearing inside the Orangeburg County Courthouse came just a month after a court overturned the conviction and sentence of Laffitte. Judge Heath Taylor discussed setting a new trial date, the conditions of Laffitte’s bond and his assets.
