NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Park Circle Pride kicked off the start of its fifth anniversary festival in North Charleston Tuesday afternoon. The festival began at 5 p.m. at Commonhouse Aleworks for the raising of the Pride flag. North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess was expected to attend Tuesday’s start. Several other events are scheduled for Tuesday night, according to the festival’s official website.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - College of Charleston Police arrested three men over the weekend who they say were found unconscious in a vehicle with multiple firearms inside. A’Tavious Flowers, Jorge Calvario, and J’marri McCall each faces a charge of carrying weapons on school property, according to jail records.

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A Colleton County firefighter has been released from a hospital after being injured while fighting a fire near Cottageville. Colleton County Fire-Rescue responded Sunday morning at approximately 7:54 a.m. to a house fire off Waterfowl Lane. When crews arrived, they found an elevated porch attached to the home fully involved and the structure starting to burn.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health is offering advice to help you avoid a pesky warm-weather nuisance. SCDPH officials say there are at least 61 different mosquito species in the state. Not all of them bite people, but some species that do can pose a serious health risk to people and animals. The most common diseases mosquitoes can carry include the West Nile virus, Eastern Equine encephalitis, La Crosse encephalitis, Saint Louis encephalitis virus.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A judge sentenced a Summerville man who pleaded guilty to a gun charge in federal court. Mark Lee Frasier, 33, was sentenced to 20 years on a charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition after a felony conviction, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson Veronica Hill. Prosecutors said Charleston Police approached Frasier, who had parked in front of an abandoned building, while they patrolled a “high-crime area” on Feb. 7, 2023.
