TIERRA VERDE — To get 250 feet above the mangroves while flying at least 40 miles an hour, you don’t need a runway. Or even a pilot’s license. With the emerging technology of ultralight all-electric aircraft, all that’s required is a patch of flat land and a sizable sense of adventure — plus two weeks of required training. And some disposable income, of course.

“These Republicans in the leadership office, you know, they’re working, hat in hand, with the Miami Herald and the Tampa Bay Times, very liberal media outlets,” DeSantis said. “Is that what Republicans do? Work with the Miami Herald?”

Yesterday in the House State Affairs Committee, the House version (HB 209) got amended to remove the language environmentalists were most concerned about being used as loopholes, strengthening the bill. Stay tuned to see if the Senate version follows suit.
