Ava Kennedy has been undergoing treatment after being suddenly paralysed. A teenage girl from North Shields says "life is so much harder" after she was paralysed without warning. What started as a normal day at school for Ava Kennedy, aged 14, ended with her losing the ability to walk. In November 2023 she was sitting in class when she felt a sudden burning sensation in her thighs. She was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a lump on her spine caused by tangled blood vessels.

Organisers of Durham Fringe are promising the 'biggest and best' festival to date as it returns for a fourth year. The event is will see 90 acts delivering more than 250 performances at eight venues across Durham City from Wednesday 24 July until Sunday 28 July.

Since 2022, the Care quality Commission has re-inspected maternity units across the country, and the results paint a picture of declining care. In England almost half of maternity services are substandard (49%).

The family of an 11-year-old with a life-limiting illness have paid tribute to their "beautiful brown eyed girl" who has died. Nicole Rich, from Throckley, Newcastle, had a rare and incurable neurodegenerative condition called Batten disease which causes seizures, childhood dementia, sight loss and mobility issues. On Tuesday 24 October, her parents Gail and Matthew Rich, posted on social media that Nicole had died following complications from a chest infection.
