Wednesday, a U.S. judge issued a temporary restraining order in a lawsuit filed by a trade group that represents contractors who operate Job Corps centers.

(WSFA) - The first Friday in June is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and according to Everytown for Gun Safety, in Alabama, around 560 people die and around 930 are wounded by gun violence every year. This is the fifth-highest rate of gun violence in the U.S.Alabama has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the nation. Anyone 19-years-old or older can purchase a gun without a background check.     ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (WSFA) - It’s a project that’s been in the works for around a decade that’s finally coming to fruition. Around 18 months ago, Alex City schools broke ground on the new Benjamin Russell High School.     MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - We’re entering the start of summer. Temperatures are heating up, and more people are out and about. That’s why it’s so important to be aware of how to be safe as a pedestrian, and how to keep pedestrians safe. In the first six months of 2024, there were 68 pedestrian deaths from traffic accidents in Alabama, that’s a 1.5% increase since 2023. “Everyone is a pedestrian,” Captain Jeremy Burkett with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.

There are around 200 species of mosquitoes in the United States, and Alabama is home to around 60 of those.
