    The government’s efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) have had limited impact, the National Audit Office (NAO) has warned. Despite taking the threat seriously, resistant infections have risen and the UK remains “a long way” from tackling the problem, the parliamentary watchdog found.1Only one of five targets set in 2019—cutting the use of antibiotics in food producing animals—has been met, the NAO investigation found.

    Clinicians need better guidance on identification and treatment of drug-induced erythrocytosis, say researchers who did a review of current evidence. The team found several classes of medications associated with erythrocytosis, including testosterone, SGLT-2 inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, erythropoietin, and anti-TB medications. But they found limited evidence to guide clinical practice.

    Adults with ADHD ‘are living shorter lives than they should’, say researchers who analysed life expectancy in GP patient records. The UK study found a reduction in life expectancy for men with diagnosed ADHD of between 4.5 and 9 years, and between 6.5 and 11 years for women. It is likely to be a result of ‘modifiable risk factors’ as well as unmet support and treatment needs for both ADHD and co-occurring mental and physical health conditions, the team from University College London concluded.
