Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) was first included in a diagnostic manual as part of the Feeding and Eating Disorder category in DSM-V in 2013, followed by ICD-11 in 2019. Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder is characterised by avoidance or restriction of food intake resulting in insufficient quantity or variety of food to provide adequate energy or nutritional requirements.

Marking its tenth anniversary as a diagnosis, our scoping review summarised 50 studies reporting on psychological interventions and outcomes for Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). In the absence of clinical guidelines to support clinicians, our review highlights that a range of psychological interventions can be implemented to support children and young people with ARFID. Here, we summarise the existing literature and highlight areas for further research.

1 INTRODUCTION Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) was introduced to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) 10 years ago (American Psychiatric Association, APA, 2013). More recently, ARFID has also been added to the International Classification of Diseases, eleventh edition (ICD-11) (Claudino et al., 2019; World Health Organisation, 2019).
