Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) was first included in a diagnostic manual as part of the Feeding and Eating Disorder category in DSM-V in 2013, followed by ICD-11 in 2019. Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder is characterised by avoidance or restriction of food intake resulting in insufficient quantity or variety of food to provide adequate energy or nutritional requirements.
