    Earlier today, Coimisiún na Meán (CnaM) adopted the finalised version of its Online Safety Code (the Code). The Code is part of Ireland’s transposition of the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive. It details binding obligations for video-sharing platform service providers aimed at protecting children and the general public from harmful content. As was expected, the text of the Code that has been adopted is almost identical to the draft version which was published in May of this year.

    Last Friday the government published the General Scheme for the National Cyber Security Bill 2004 (the General Scheme).     On 27 November, the final text of the EU’s Data Act (the Act) was formally approved by the European Parliament and the European Council. It will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the EU’s official journal, which is expected in the coming days. However, the majority of its provisions will only apply 20 months after it enters into force.
