James Hunt was the first Grand Prix driver I really disliked. It was, I suppose, a result of me being a member of the establishment, schooled in manners and diplomacy by Bruce McLaren. And if James specialised in anything apart from driving very fast, it was tweaking the nose of the establishment. He flatly refused to conform. He had surfed into Formula 1 on the foaming Hesketh champagne wave. The portly, wealthy young Lord Hesketh had come up through the proper schools, so he knew how to behave.
