Over the years I volunteered with many prisoners with whom I spent hundreds of hours on the phone or replied to emails. I forgave them of their crimes and tried my best to give them hope. There was one prisoner who changed my life forever. I was only able to chat with that prisoner, I never heard their voice. The prisoner encountered an ontological proof of God. It drove them to madness. The conversation began with:"I do need help. If anyone is there, please help me. I'm so lonely here all alone.

The annual awards celebrate Canadian science fiction and fantasy writing across 10 categories, including fiction, YA, poetry, comics, illustration and fan writing. Moreno-Garcia is nominated in two categories: in best novel for The Daughter of Doctor Moreau and in best novella for the Amazon Original story The Tiger Came to the Mountains.
