LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An unexpected windfall translates into new tractors for Lowndes County. The county Road Department has 10 New Holland tractors that are reaching the end of their service life. Their almost constant use has resulted in frequent maintenance issues, and the Road Manager and Supervisors have been wanting to replace them. The cost has been a stumbling block, but at the meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved buying 5 new tractors.

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Booneville man is in the Prentiss County Jail, charged with two sex crimes. The investigation began in late June when Booneville police took a report of a sexual assault on a minor. The Criminal Investigation Division took up the case and identified 51-year-old Jessie Wayne Stewart of Booneville as a suspect. Investigators also learned of allegations of a second, unrelated offense that had led to Stewart being arrested in July.

Now retired, Erle said his favorite way to spend an afternoon is with Turner Classic Movies. Before he could drive, Erle Chenney remembered spending many Saturday afternoons at the movie theater in downtown Starkville. The Rex was on the corner of Main and South Washington Streets. The State Theater was an easy walking distance, just a block and a half down Main.
