While the defense gets a lot of attention because of head coach Mike Macdonald’s focus and background on that side of the ball, equally under the microscope is Seattle’s offense under quarterback Sam Darnold and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

Cal Raleigh provided all the Mariner offense, but Baltimore came out on top yesterday 4-3, completing a three-game sweep…The Orioles scored the game’s first run on a wild pitch from Bryan Woo, who didn’t have his usual good stuff for Seattle. Cal tied it right after with an RBI-single. He then gave Seattle the lead with a 2-run home run, his league-leading 24th of the season.

The Wenatchee AppleSox won their 4th straight last night with a narrow 2-nothing victory over Kelowna…Karsten Sweum, Alex Ammerman and Joe Thornton combined on a 4-hit shutout as Wenatchee did just enough offensively to get the win. Gunnar Penzkover led off the bottom of the 5th with a single, moving to second and a wild pitch and to third on a ground out before scoring the game’s first run on a passed ball. Noah Fields’ RBI-double in the 8th added an insurance run for the AppleSox.

The Mariners got great pitching from starter Emerson Hancock and some gems defensively from Cole Young and Randy Arozarena, but couldn’t hang onto a lead in a 3-2 loss to Baltimore last night…Hancock pitched 5-and-two-thirds, allowing a run on 2-hits with six strikeouts. A two-out triple proved to be the difference for the Orioles with Heston Kjerstad coming through with what proved to be the game-winner…Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez had four of Seattle’s five hits in the game.

Baltimore knocked out Seattle in the first of a three-game series 5-1 last night... George Kirby had to exit game following 5-innings on the mound after being hit in the face by a line drive. The Orioles led 2-1 at that point and went on for their 4th-straight victory. Rowdy Tellez accounted for Seattle's only run with his solo home run. The two teams meet again tonight at 6:40 on ROOT Sports Northwest.
