State Sen. Aaron Woods, a former tech executive serving his first term in the Oregon Legislature, died Saturday. He was 75. Two Democratic lawmakers told OPB that Woods died due to complications with cancer that had recently reemerged. The Wilsonville Democrat recently took a leave from this yearâs legislative session to undergo treatment. He was in Colorado receiving chemotherapy when he died. Woods was surrounded by his family when he died. He had five adult children.

WENATCHEE — Construction for Phase 1 of the Confluence Parkway Project kicked off Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony. Wenatchee Mayor Mike Poirier, U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier (D-8th), U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) and Chelan County Commissioner Brad Hawkins were all in attendance and spoke of their gratitude for the official commencement of Phase 1, and all of the many people who worked behind-the-scenes to help bring the project to fruition.

SPOKANE — A man accused of distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine in Okanogan County and throughout Eastern Washington was convicted by a federal jury this week. Luis Esquivel-Bolanos, a 45-year-old Mexican national, was found guilty Wednesday of five counts in U.S. District Court including conspiracy, distribution and possession of narcotics.
