A 17-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in North Austin left five people dead and 11 others injured overnight, police say. Austin police confirmed that the crash occurred late Thursday night, claiming the lives of three adults, one child, and one infant. Seven of the 11 injured were reported to be in critical condition. Austin-Travis County EMS Captain Christa Stedman said crews responded swiftly to the scene, but the severity of the crash made rescue efforts challenging.

Hundreds of protestors gathered in North Texas and around the state over the weekend in opposition to President Donald Trump's immigration raids. A protest in Dallas on Sunday started at 3 p.m. near the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and lasted for several hours. In Austin, hundreds of people gather at the steps of the Texas Capitol. Protestors told Austin NBC affiliate KXAN that they're saddened and frightened about the raids.

Enchanted Rock, one of Texas' most popular natural landmarks, is set to expand by 3,000 acres following a $43 million land acquisition funded through the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, approved by voters two years ago. The newly acquired land, previously used for hunting, will be incorporated into Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

A bill to ban THC will be introduced in the Texas Senate when the legislature convenes in January, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) says. State Sen. Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) plans to introduce Senate Bill 3, Patrick said. The bill would outlaw the sale of any products containing THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. Patrick argued that such products are unsafe and claimed the bill would have bipartisan support in the Senate.

Prominent Houston Attorney Tony Buzbee says his firm is representing fifty victims of hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who was indicted earlier this month in New York Federal Court on racketeering, conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges. Buzbee says his clients who are male and female, some of whom were minors at the time, are brave for coming forward.
